Creating natural coloured dyes and printing on fabric and paper with plants
Edwina Hughes an experienced Textile artist and Dyer, will introduce you to a world of making coloured dyes from plants and natural materials and botanical printing with plants.
Botanical Printing Workshops
These Workshops are programmed throughout the year on a Saturday from 2 until 4.30 and on a Tuesday from 10 until 1.30. They take place in the Colour Naturally Workshop, Studio and Dye Garden at Lofts Farm near Maldon in Essex, UK.
The Botanical Printing Workshop is an introduction to the ways colour images can be extracted from plants using heat and moisture. This Workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who would like to achieve a better understanding of the process, through hands on experiences. The plant material is gathered fresh from the Dye Garden or foraged sustainably from around the farm. Students harvest, process and create the print images on fabric and on paper using flowers, leaves, even bark. All materials, cotton, silk, wool and paper are included in the price as well as equipment and the refreshments during the break.
Natural Dying Workshops
These Workshops are programmed throughout the year on a Saturday from 2 until 4.30 and on a Tuesday from 10 until 1.30. They take place in the Colour Naturally Workshop and Studio at Lofts Farm near Maldon in Essex, UK.
The Dyeing Workshop is an introduction to the processes where colour can be extracted from plants. It covers the preparation of the fabrics and harvesting of the natural materials. This Workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those who would like to understand more through hands on experiences. The plant material is gathered fresh from the Dye Garden or foraged sustainably from around the farm. Dried material is also used. Students will create the dye baths and then discover how to modify the different colours using fabric and yarn. All materials, cotton, silk, wool and yarns are included in the price as well as equipment and the refreshments during the break.

The fee for the 2 ½ hour Workshop is £60.00 per person and the group size is limited to 6.
